1. WHAT IS A SEARCH ENGINE ANYWAY?

A Search Engine is defined as a program that searches for and identifies items within a database. They look for keywords, phrases or characters specified by the searcher.

2. SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION (SEO) WHAT IS IT?

Search Engine Optimisation is the process of affecting the on-line visibility of a website or a web-page in a search engine’s unpaid results.  Often referred to as “natural”, “organic”, or “earned” results.

In theory, the higher ranked your web-page is, the more frequently your website appears in the search results list. The more visitors it receives increases the chance these visitors can then be converted into customers.

3. GOOGLE, THE SEARCH ENGINE TO RULE THEM ALL.

Google is the internet search engine of choice with a massive 91.63% of the

market share. It therefore makes sense to look at how Google was created

using the PageRank system. PageRank was named after one of Google founders Larry Page.

PageRank ranks websites by counting the number and quality of links to a

page to determine a rough estimate of how important the website is. The underlying assumption is that more important websites are likely to receive more links from other websites called backlinks.

4. QUALITY BACK LINKS

A backlink is a link one website gets from another website. Backlinks make a huge impact on a websites prominence in search engine results. This is why they are considered very useful for improving a websites SEO ranking.

5. WHAT ELSE Affects YOUR SEO?

While there no is set, hard and fast rules for the perfect SEO score. There are things we can do which will optimise your website to make it rank better.

Some of these are:

Google My Business - Make sure your business is listed with Google My Business.

Submit Your Website to Search Engines - Every Search Engine will crawl the internet looking for pages to add to it’s directory. It is good practice and works in your favour to submit your website when it goes live.

Directory Listings - Where can I get my website address listed? The better/bigger the website the better the quality of the backlink.

Here's a list you can try.  Some of these will work and some won’t. Don’t pay for any unless you think they will add value to your business.

Aim for at least 6 good quality links from other websites to your own.
